Fernando 與美墨戰爭

美墨戰爭 1835年美國煽動墨西哥德克薩斯地區的種植園主叛亂，並入美國。墨西哥出兵鎮壓，美國派兵佔領德克薩斯，並攻入墨西哥，5月美國對墨宣戰。

1846年5月18日，泰勒率美軍南下佔領馬塔莫斯，9月攻佔蒙特雷，11月佔領薩爾蒂約。同年6月卡尼率美軍1700人西進，奪取墨西哥和加利福尼亞。1847年2月，泰勒部在布埃納維斯塔擊潰墨西哥總統聖安納率領的墨軍1.4萬人。3月，美軍在總司令斯克特率1萬美軍在墨西哥灣韋拉克魯斯登陸，29日，美軍攻佔韋拉克魯斯。4月18日，美軍擊潰總統聖安納主力和參謀部，5月5日，美軍佔領普埃布拉，逼近墨西哥城，8月美援軍趕到，美軍在康特列拉斯再次擊敗墨軍。雙方進行和談，9月7日談判破裂。9月8日，美軍向墨西哥城發動進攻，被擊退，12日，美軍佔領城外高地，炮轟城牆。14日美軍攻入墨西哥城，16日控制全城實行軍管。10月墨西哥總統被免職。

1847年11月11日安約當選墨西哥臨時總統，1848年1月雙方開始和談。2月2日雙方簽定和約，墨西哥割讓德克薩斯、新墨西哥、上加利福尼亞。1848年6月12日，美軍撤出墨西哥城，戰爭結束。

美國通過這場規模不算很大的戰爭奪取了230萬平方公裡的土地，一躍成為地跨大西洋和太平洋的大國，世所罕見。墨西哥喪失了大半國土，元氣大傷。美國從此獲得在美洲的主宰地位。


Fernando 是很普通的西班牙名字,代表脫離西班牙剛獨立不久的墨西哥
the Rio Grande 就是今天美墨邊界的河川
ABBA 的這首Fernando 很明顯是在替墨西哥訴說他們心中對於戰敗的無奈, 歌詞中盡量避免了激烈的民族情緒,但也點出了在強國欺壓下的弱國子民,如果有必要仍願意上戰場為尊嚴而戰的立場,仔細看看以下的歌詞,加上ABBA刻意加上模仿中美洲印地安笛茄聲 ,真的很動聽
